IRELAND’S AONTÚ PARTY, PEADAR TÓIBÍN, AND EILEEN & LATE CHRIS SLATTERY, TO BE HONORED IN NEW YORK CITY FOR PRO-LIFE LEADERSHIP, COURAGE AND COMPASSION 

New York, NY. January 14, 2026 — Ireland’s Aontú party leader, Peadar Tóibín, TD, and a prominent Irish-American couple, Eileen and the late Chris Slattery, will be honored Saturday, January 24 at 4:30PM in Connolly’s Times Square, in recognition of their outstanding pro-life service.

The event, hosted by Irish Pro-Life USA, will award the Irish politician the Distinguished Leadership Award and the Slatterys of Yonkers, NY, the Public Service Award, The three are the first recipients of the newly-established honors.

Tóibín is a member of Dáil Éireann, the Lower House of Ireland’s Parliament. Aontú, a right to life party, joined the recent vote in the Dáil to narrowly avert the massive expansion of abortion in Ireland. Tóibín represents the Meath West constituency of Ireland. 

Aontú has sharply increased its vote and profile with two elected representatives in the Dail, one in the Irish Senate. It won eight council seats in local elections. Aontú was formed in 2019 after Tóibín resigned from Sinn Fein because of its support on abortion.

Eileen and the late Chris Slattery of Yonkers, New York, campaigned tirelessly to end abortion in New York and nationwide. Chris founded EMC Frontline, New York City’s largest network of pregnancy care centers, now part of non-profit CompassCare Pregnancy Services. 

A former advertising executive, Chris, who died in 2023 after a long struggle with cancer, was a stalwart pro-life activist along with wife Eileen. Both devoted their lives to pro-life work, saving over 40,000 babies, according to EMC. But they made personal and professional sacrifices. In the early days, Chris lost his well-paid advertising job because of the notoriety of his pro-life activism which then became his fulltime mission. 

The event at Connolly’s (third floor) will start at 4:30PM with Tobin and Eileen accepting their awards with many supporters and friends expected. Admission is free. After the gathering, a Mix & Mingle with light refreshments will be hosted at Connolly’s by Friends of Aontú USA at 5:30PM. That will be followed by a Friends of Aontú USA Public Meeting.
